what kind of metal would be the best to use if you were to make a sway bar? not aluminum.
jdrzx2
do you mean strut bar or sway bar?
inis
moved to proper area
jdrzx2
thanks for keeping check
street_tuner87
the one that goes in the engine bay.
jdrzx2
that would be a strut bar. you would use a high grade aluminum and a cnc machine to mill it out to fit the car, then you would have to come up with some brackets to bolt it to the top of the strut housing tower. unless you have the tools, i wouldn't try making them.
CJW
I can make or have them made anytime I want. 8)

BUT Im lazy

There are many many types of metals you can use. A solid 1 piece construction is best.

Are you going to do handling mods to the 929 and then autox it?
inis
929 = to heavy , under powered ...to auto-x

Carl, how can you have these made?

Friend is certified in welding aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium. And I am a certified drafter

I plan to have one made for myself evenually and if I end up liking the design on the zx2 then Ill mass produce them like the other projects I have lined up...
inis
oh I got ya, thought you meant a cnc machine ..i was like hey hey hey now... lol
ChillinZX
My friend does CNC machine work, if you need something made send me the design with measurements on it. I would have to send him that and he will tell me how much it will cost to make, usually it would be just the material and some side cash for doing it. He can make anything crazy up to a rim design. He mostly makes brackets and round objects for Ford.

Can do that too as I am trained in esprit 8)

Just need to check on the machines I still have access to. One I used to work with could do a full bar but Im not sure if he still has the machine or not. Depending the material and way it was laid out, the way I was talking would suffice for any application I would ever need.

no not planning to do any racing i just thought it would make the bay look nicer. idk just an idea. but i dont know if it would even fit tho it would have to attach in three plaeces instead of two. by that i mean it would have to go to the back of the bay just to have room cause i think the hood insulator and everything is to low for anything that would stick up past anything OE. the hood is pretty much form fitting. so i guess the bar would be to much but it you know i am always up for a good challenge. 8) dont think i will do it tho. maybe not the 929 at least.
street_tuner87
this is my get through the end of highschool and college car so all i really want to do is make it look nice.
arden
will you change the thread title to "strut bar" so its not so confusing... we are not talkin sway bars here...

I think inis's point is the 929 isn't the optimal auto-x car. I'd agree, especially with an automatic transmission.

929s aren't excluded. There is a Chevy Colorado pickup truck and a huge SAAB convertible that autox regularly. If a 929 is your ride, I'd say bring it and see what it will do.

If you are interested in improving your driving skills in a safe environment, I'd encourage a (young) driver of just about any vehicle (no SUVs) to autox.
arden
bring the 929, there was a freakin crystler sebring on track at one of the events, talk about a boat, and it had to be auto... there are some serious racers out there and there are also just people that want to drive whatever car they got fast and crazy in a safe enviroment. you may get a couple odd looks or a comment or two but who cares, its just for fun. i can tell you that i learned a TON from my two races. i know what my car can do and what it cant. i feel safer and more confident driving... go out at least once and try it out. if you dont like then no biggie
street_tuner87
thanks for the comments... But once again i was just wondering cause i am just trying to make the bay look nice. i don't intend to race the 929 just make it look nice.
