Well here is the predicament. My bro recently got a pristine 1997 Integra GSR. So now he has 2 cars. He is going to be moving back to Kansas this summer and he might sell me his other car, which is an 89 Civic Hatch STD. Yes! They had a Honda model called an "STD" It was the lightest of the bunch with no options at all. Well the engine got dropped and a b16a1a (160hp) was thrown in there, rear disc conversion, siR hatch swap, siR front a rear seat conversions, 4 to 5 speed swap. siR suspension switch over. Some very expensive stiff as f00k motor mounts and misc. bolt ons. This car is very quick and is like a little go-cart. This car handles so we3ll and is very loud inside due to the motor mounts. No AC, No radio. He will sell it to me for $5k, he might go a bit lower. But its all up in the air right now. I would really like a quick car and this thing would definately satisfy my need for that. Plus theres a Wings West Body kit collecting dust in our garage that he will throw in there, plus a slew of other "extra parts" from the swap. So I might end up selling the Neon here next year and buy this little beast. Heres some old picts when he came by last year. Paint is flawless and its original from 89. We will see what happens.... Its really up in the air.

Heres the weight of the car before the swap..

Meh ... the car is worth $4k, and he knows it. While he's not gouging you, he could go cheaper.

Drop the B16 out of there. Find an early, wrecked CRV (the SUV thing), and gank it's motor. It's a B-series as well, and will fit. Put the head from the B16 onto it, and you've got a nice 205hp (ish) B20 bomber swap smile.gif

PS: your post makes me miss my hatch an incredible amount. It was the same car, except the 1991. The previous owner had installed a center console, and flat-blacked the whole thing, down to the GSR wheels. It had a D15B (95hp) with no VTEC because of the computer. (VTEC on that motor brings it to 125hp). He had it on cheap eBay coilovers. It was a damn gokart ... no PS or AC either.

the hatch is worth around 1k, but the engine is worth around 1300.00, together running I'd say the entire car is worth around 3000.00 , the motor mounts, intake body kit etc etc dont bring up the value any.

the motor that you are referring to is a B20B....that should help find the block if interested...and as insta stated, swapping to a vtec head, such as the b16, isn't too bad of an idea....however on the otherhand....if you were to pick up the complete block(B20B) then you could always go F.I. as a friend of mine has done...just a thought though.

YEah 5k is wayyyy too much as I found out.. My bro wants to still keep it in a sense so thats why he is asking so much for it. (cause he got ripped off on it when he had someone do the swap) I will offer him 3-$3.5k This summer and see what happens. IF that fails, I have a friend that has a SRT-4 complete tranny that he didn't use on his SRT-4 engine swap. (Went ATX) So I might end up buying that from him. Then I will have to find a SRT-4 engine, to compliment the tranny. =)

Heck while you're debating between the two vehicles why not see what else might be on the market in the same price range. I know some civics were put out in Canada that were the lightest of them all and they make they're way down here to the hardcore autocrossers, but just because this one is one of them can't mean it's impossible to gut another down to it's size. Hell I hear U pick it has a thanksgiving sale this weekend maybe you could find something worthwhile out there? (I still haven't made it out there for my stupid hatch piece, oh well might end up with a spoiler anyway...)

I have never been to U-wrench it, I might have to check that place out sometime and see what I can find...

I've seen lots of different stuff out there like the old school supras the 80's versions out there, mr2's it really depends, mostly you go out there for parts but if you find an engine worth saving you could always buy a good cosmetic car and gut the engine and swap. I used to go out there for my saturn but haven't been out there for my mx3, need a couple parts badly but haven't had time to get out there to see what they got. it's like a friggin playground when you get there you feel like you're in the toy aisle haha. If you don't find anything don't get discouraged cause their stock changes frequently, the fun part is pulling the parts out yourself!
