Anyone have a sandblasting cabinet?

I've got some alloy (yes, Bear) wheels I'd like to have blasted with either plastic media or walnut shells. (I've hear I shouldn't use sand, because it will pit the alloy wheels.)

Paul has a cabinet.. ..I'm pretty sure a rim would fit in it...

I've got all sorts of sand blasting and plastic media blasting and we got a brand new caustic soda blasting booth, and we're also setting up a new plastic media booth that's large enough to put a full size pickup in unfortunately you'd have to drive to Italy :-P

yea the sand and any sort of aluminum is bad because you'll end up taking off some aluminum once you get the paint clear use plastic media at a lower pressure, you dont' have to worry to much cause a rim is not gonna be thin enough that you're going to warp it,

if your'e gonna paint these or anything afterward then make sure you clean the crap out of them the plastic media will leave a film on the surface afterward and if there's any nooks and cranny's stuff will collect there and it's fun to get it all out, (using water is not always a good idea cause it just makes it stick better, in fact if it's raining the day you plan on doing this just don't do it) if you don't get everythiing out then the paint gun will inevitably release what's left of the media and get it all over your beutiful paint job,

for instance we do complete paints on all our F-16 landing gear, the wheels are two piece bolt together so the bolt holes usually collect stuff and we make sure to run a clean rag through there like you're cleaning the barrel of a rifle to get it all out or it will ruin your paint job.
have fun I'm just kinda ranting

Thanks for all the good info!

I won't be able to make the drive to Italy anytime soon, but you take good care of yourself.

yeah paul has a cabinet, it MIGHT be big enough for a wheel, but its not huge. i owe him some blasting sand but if you require something else, ask him and see if he has any. im still waiting on the arrangement of another meet wink.gif

are you going to get the wheels repainted? if so you can get it done rogers manufacturing, sandblasting and powedercoated for around 40-50 per wheel.

thats a hell of a deal! how much do you think they would charge to sandblast and powder coat: a valve cover, RSB, and 2 rear calipers?

you'll have to call them and they will more than likely tell you to take the stuff in and get a price quote. i broke my cell phone so i can't see the screen right now but i think this is the number. 913-829-3363

ok, well i will take the stuff out there next time im on my way to pauls. i got a linky from Rich but either they are updating their page or i just cant make much sense of it...

do you think they can polish the lip on my wheels?
