Yeh, I may [probably will] be needing some sort of car/truck/scooter/vespa/rocketsled/hoverbike/flyingtrain/spaceship/teleporter sometime soon. I am atm driving my sister's car, as she is in Germany, but she will be back at christmastime. Also, as some of you know, I am moving out of my parents' house, in with some friends, and I can't really say for sure how keen they will be on the idea of paying for a car/insurance for me when I am not there. So I thought it might be best if I get my own something or other [see above].

I don't need anything fast or fancy, what I am looking for is something cheap and dependable. The 'dependable' is really more important than the 'cheap', but I can't really spend $5k on it just yet. I figured its probably a good thing I am here a bit, have a good base of support for whenever said cheap car becomes undependable, so I thought I would start here, see if anybody has suggestions about where to look.

Any suggestions?

While I understand that $4800 != $5000, its still quite a bit more than I am wanting to spend. I'd rather go for a ~$1000 something-or-other, dependable, good gas mileage is a plus, etc.

And I am not looking solely for cars you guys own, but perhaps if you know somebody who has one, or a certain magazine/newspaper to look in, or something like that.

Edit: on that note, 01CGNeon, I could probably do $1500 or so for yours. :P

I will try to get ahold of the guy that has it. It is a 96 Neon ACr coupe so its a dohc 5spd car. its in pretty nice shape.

4800 for his car is a dam good deal, i've seen it in person, very well taken care of. I think that price is to get someone out of a loan, because otherwise the car must of been totalled and fixed or have something majorly wrong with it...

Just talked to the fella with the neon, he is gonna get me some pics.

Update on this: It looks like I am definitely going to be needing a car, as the one I am using now will not be available after new year or so. I have been watching car ads somewhat, but I lack experience in this, and would like your guys' suggestions and/or redirects.

Nothing is wrong with it, just needs an alignment which I will have done for the person who buys it.
You can even test drive it yourself and tell me if there is something wrong with it.

My dad and I are gonna check it out this coming weekend. If everything is right and as what he told me on the phone I will purchase it. I noticed on kcsr.org he is selling it for $1750. So I am guessing I could get it for $1500 or maybe less?

Toby is a stand up guy, I personally helped do a lot of work on this car and if I had the extra money I would have this car already. He offered it to me before he posted it up for sale.

I will take very good care of it if I do take it off his hands. ;)
