alright, so i got an extra zx2 throttle body. I know i should use a dremel to port it and i know how to polish it, but what bit do i use to port it? a metal grinding bit? i tried using the sanding bits but they get tore up way too quick...
inis
diamond bits, there about 8 bucks each, and you'll need about 3 diff styles.
arden
i guess i would need to go to home depot or somewhere to get these?

Do yourself a favor. Get a facemask, respirator, and plastic bag (with strategically cut holes). Cover your entire head. Wear full-length clothes, and long gloves (sleeves tucked in). Make yourself a damn hazmat suit.

You think I'm joking ...

It is not cool when your upper arms start rusting because of all the metal flecks embedded in them. The dust from a throttle body goes everywhere! If you only listen to one piece of advice anyone ever tells you, let it be this. Do not skimp on your bodyarmor. Make it comical, how many layers can you pile on ...

woose

rusting in the arms just means you got some good iron going on....

actually i learned in chemistry that that is a "bad" rust to have "going on" ... lol

i have only done minor work on the TB, no metal in the skin yet but it does make a mess. i bought a "diamond bit" today but it was so small and insignificant that it does no good at all. i need a larger bit. i also bought a grinder bit, but its not diamond and its not grinding too fast... but at least it didnt explode like the sand paper...

i have all sorts of air tools and a huge garage to do this in, either way i want to help you do it so mine will look better when ever i decide i want to port out things. i would say go to sears to find that type of grinding stuff, but they are a little costly.

I have all the bit..and I also have a couple tb's sitting in my garage, i'll port and polish one if someone wants to buy it off me. Gotta tell me what you wanna offer and if you want auto or manaul tb. (auto is stiffer, by preference I like auto better)
jdrzx2
but why would we want to pay for it if we can do it ourselves?

instead you get a nice white powdery oxide on your skin if you wait around in a wet invironment long enough :-p

as far as the protection goes, at work we got a bunch of people that run around sampling air and all this other junk to make sure that everyone is safe with what they do (I've had to wear like 20 sensors while mixing bondo before :-P ) according to them we don't have to worry bout respirators when grinding, sanding, drilling, and whatnot to alluminum. they just want us to wear steel toe boots (they always say that even if it's a paper shredder you're using) safety glasses, and single ear protection. I also usually wear a pair of issued coveralls with the sleeves down.

oh bryan was saying that cause the bits we use create 4mm slivers of metal..and they do go in your arms and since your doing such detailed work..they get all over you....
I did get some in me also, but didnt bother me as much as him sorcerer.gif
arden
nice smiley

i have a dremel, i just need to spend some money on some different bits. the whole point is that i want to do it myself, no offense jarred

Yeah I'm a pussy. Maybe it wasn't the throttle body that made me rust, but one of our projects did. The 5spd swap maybe?
