I recently installed a brand new AEM SRI on my car. Very pretty piece so say the lease. teehee.gif

I heard people saying how the fitiment was pretty on the AEM bad blah blah blah. Didn't think much of it until I installed it.

The little rubber piece on the intake is there to guard against the battery terminal. It is pressed up against it as you can see...

The oil line going to the turbo is pressed up against the intake a bit....

Well anyways on with the story. The next day after the install, I am making a right hand turn on 87th street from Lackman. My car suddenly bogs, my ABS light goes on, then it turns off along with my radio that was playing. Then the radio turns back on and the ABS light is off. So I am like, "What the heck just happened?" I continue to drive down the street and decide to pull over and check things out in a parking lot. Pop the hood open and it looks like something had splattered on my intake.. I then see that rubber peice pictured above is like...gone. The little red thing on my terminal is up and its + terminal directly on my intake. Great. Then I check underneath my car and this red fluid is all over the place. Coolant. Great, must of broke a hose or something. Call up my insurance and have it towed back to Gardner to a local shop for free. (Gotta love full coverage) This was the Friday before last... They told me they won't be able to look at it until Monday. It was Friday evening and they were about close. Not open on Sat/Sun. So they give me a call this past Monday telling me they need to replace the coolant return line going to the turbo, which is a special part from Dodge. They get the part this last Friday and they say they got the wrong part....... pinch.gif when in reality they ordered the wrong part in other words. They continue to tell me the part they need is on national backorder.... BUT the manufacturer just got done making 80 of them and they should get it in this Tuesday or Wednesday. They plan to move my battery over a bit and cover that steel line they will be getting in heater hose. Damn I miss my 5 speed and good gas mileage. confused.gif I just hope I don't discover scratches from it sitting out there for so long... unsure.gif

damn...that stinks. Hope everything gets taken care of shortly. All because of an intake :-(

Got my car back today! :D :D :D

Boy did I miss it!!!

It was very dirty so I gave it a nice handwash in the shade. Waiting for the tires to dry so I can apply some generic tire shine stuff on the tires.

As for what they did... They replaced the coolant line going to the turbo and added coolant. Heres what happened... The brand new AEM intake I got was rubbing up against the + terminal on the battery. It was okay because there is a rubber shield both on the intake and the red shield for the battery... So I didn't think much of it. Low and behold, it ate throw the rubber piece on the intake in less than a day and the red connector somehow was pushed up before I got it towed... Well anyways I found out that there was an arc of electricity that hit the intake creating another arc to the coolant line that was on the intake too... Causing it to burn a hole through the damn line!

All is done now but he told me that he bled the coolant system the best he could and there might be some air in the coolant system, so he said I might need to add some fluid... :? Why? Wouldn't I only need to add fluid if there was a leak somewhere?

I know it will look ghetto, but wrap that part of the intake with electrical tape for keep sake.

no, when purging a system, many companies useing a machine the uses air pressure to suck out the current fluid in the car, and then use air pressure to re-fill the entire system. I would just suggest checking your coolant tomorrow, or possibly the next day.

Did what both you guys recommended. Put some tape around the red rubber thingy on the + terminal so it wouldn't get moved up. I also bought some expensive coolant for my car. Its a Global coolant and was $11 a bottle. Yikes. Measured a bit of it out and added the same amount of distilled water to it. My coolant was on the add mark, now it sets in the middle. Car is runnin great. =)

i'd buy the cheap shit, truthfully it wont matter cheap vs expensive... it is a srt4.. but really I think its a waste of money.

i meant the coolant.. jic you read that wrong.

Well I asked the guy at the counter for the global stuff and he left and came back with the Zerox G-05... 5 year or 150k coolant/antifreeze... Didn't really have a say..... Oh well.

I was told after I got it that I could of just added distilled water and would of been fine.

Flyin'Miata sells this part, but it'd work on any car really... The carbon fiber is for looks only, but the battery is a pretty serious beast...
