how much would it hurt with a 50% underdrive crank pulley.

About 50% would be my guess

UDPs only slow down the rest of your accesories. If you are going to run a big system I highly recomend you do not use one.

It also reduces the weight on the crank shaft and lessens the rotating mass. Of all of the bolt ons I did to my Neon, the UDP made the biggest impact on the butt dyno. If you are going to run a big system, you can always get an overdrive pulley for the alternator like I did. It's basically a smaller, lighter pulley for your alternator which speeds it back up.

In my case when I say big systems I mean to the point where you are buying a bigger alternator, better batteries, and lots of zero gauge wiring.

It moots the whole point.

The reason I said that is because at one point mike wanted to compete in audio...very very very dumb idea to get an udp and compete.

which is why i am not competing, not with this car anyway.
CJW
probably better that way anyway. The only way competing can be someone cheap is if you pony up the bucks in the beginning for expensive equipment that can be fixed when it does break. By somewhat cheap I mean...really not cheap at all
street_tuner87
are the udp's from escort performance good quality? i cant find them anywhere else.
CJW
The only way an UDP would be bad is if it was made out of sucky material. I doubt anyone would waste their time using "discount" aluminum to make an UDP.

Are you buying one or just talking about it?
street_tuner87
thinkin of buyin one.
street_tuner87
it was midas or some place like that but they qouted me at an hour labor for $75 to install the pulley. and i would have to pay for a serp belt thats 3 1/2 inches shorter.
CJW
Or you could grow a pair and install it yourself
street_tuner87
first chill out and second i dont have the tools to do it. any way the place i was going to get it from ran out of 50% and only have 25% udp's left, and dont have a date set as to when they will have 50% again.
CJW
Didn't you pull the trans out of your mazda? With no tools?

zxtuner.com might have UDPs for the spi
street_tuner87
i havent found any yet. i am sure i could do it but i dont know where to start in the first place.
inis
bring the parts, for 75 I'll do it. Bring the car and parts. PM me to work a date out.
