Full Version: Dyno, Idler Pulley, Melted Timing Belt
KcTuners > General > The Donut Shop

K so I was up at the dyno shop on saturday with a couple friends and my step dad.

Well, I went to get on the dyno and I cranked her over after she was strapped up. I walked up to the front and low and behold I see a very slick/wet looking timing belt looping around.

I shut her down and I called Jason over(guy who works there and has a pretty cool s/r) and said 'Hey Jason, is this normal...' Knowing damn well it isn't. pinch.gif

We looked at it for a bit and decided my idler pulley stopped idling aka stopped rotating aka was rubbing my belt raw aka was melting my belt aka I wouldnt have gotten much further.

Well needless to say I didnt get any dyno runs in on saturday...BUT I did get a new tune with 2 more degrees of spark added and got my idle boosted up to 1100 again thumbsup.gif

I will be going back up this week(hopefully tomorow) to get up on the dyno and do my intake testing which was scheduled for saturday.

I did get dyno tuned the 10th though thumbsup.gif And let me tell you, my powerband has never been so smooth. And my timing was remapped all the way up to 7000 rpms. If you didnt know the stock computer has the same timing from 5000 rpms on up...which is not right at all and is why it feels like shit in the upper band.

sounds cool. hey how do you up the idle?
CJW
I have a custom tuning programmer

It was fine tuned to all of my mods on the dyno the other day. My air/fuel, timing, sensers, spark were all remapped. I turned my knock senser and rear o2 senser off completely as well as bumping my idle. I also removed my speed limiter and my rev limiter.

I also programmed it to say audibly 'Good morning Carl, How are you doing today?'

...No that part I made up :-D

I might have to dig up a DXB2 now ...

Ok, might have it back today. If its done early enough Ill be able to test my airboxs on the dyno still...have roush, iceman, and stock to test them on :-)

I also got my msd coil in so Ill test that against stock too.

sweet, can't wait to see results.

K so I went up...car was done. But it sounded like it was misfiring. It sounded like a pissed off gokart. So I drove it and it felt like a minivan. K so Im like WTF...

so in fear of my car blowing up from whatever just happened I left it there and went back home. Then I got to thinking at home...hey what about coil being fried, grabbed my msd coil and headed back up. I put it on and seemed like it was trying to idle back to normal. SO I threw new plug wires on...not the problem. Lastly we took some 1 step colder copper plugs and replaced mine....ran like a champ.

The one was burnt and the other three were dirty.

Anyway I got my car back home around 8 and didnt get to dyno. Last time I dynoed I was running almost fouled plugs and an idler pulley that was going out :-D

I say we rebuild the motor. Fouled plugs are a sign of major engine problems to come er.... something. So lets turbo it.

I know thats's total b.s. but it was worth a shot.

something will happen to it evenually...just dont know what. I want to finish what I have to install now before buying more shit.
