Well, they're in Colorado. Quick Mapquest shows 9h 55m trip. I agree to go, thinking "Mapquest is usually off, it should only take like 7h total". Well, as I'm agreeing to this, I'm thinking "7 hours, 7 schmours". Gone and back by dinnertime.
Well, Mapquest was right. It was definitely 9h 55m. Actually, it was much closer to 11h 55m. EACH WAY, one crucial part I neglected to notice. The only day I could go was Sunday, but this was too good of a deal to pass up. However, the disadvantage to having to pick them up Sunday was that I still had to go to work on Monday.
I left my place at 8am. I didn't get there until 5pm (MST, -1 hour from me). The tires were a lot bigger than I thought, so 4 of them got to chill in the cabin with me. Somewhere around 2am on the way back, with 360 miles still left, a massive storm hit and forced most of the cars on the road onto the side. I pressed on, and made it to a rest stop. I scooted the passenger seat back as far as it would go, but couldn't recline it (a tire was in the way). So, cold and dead-tired, I curled up in the passenger footwell and tried to nap through the storm.
At about 3:15am, I woke up suddenly, very refreshed. The rain was still in full-force, but that wasn't going to stop me. Ashley was leaving her house at about 5:15am, and I really wanted to say goodbye to her. I had been awake for 65 of the past 72 hours, and it was starting to wear on me. I reeked of sweat (no A/C), rain, failed deodorant, and tire rubber. I had a massive headache, was shaking all over, and had no appetite (despite only having Diet Coke and a few granola bars).
I missed Ashley, but managed to get one last call in to her at about 4:30am. I was still 200-some odd miles away by the time she left. I got into town at around 6:30am. I took a shower, layed down on my futon, and was out cold in a heartbeat.
My alarm went off at 10am. I got out of bed, changed into clean clothes, and went to work. I worked 12 hours that day. I didn't know what was going on, really. I felt sick, I couldn't focus on anything. But I had my chrome rims. :)
Anyway, I grabbed pictures. No captions, they should speak for themselves. I'm just trying to show you what I saw. If you can't figure out what the picture is, chances are I'm just making fun of Kansas. Enjoy!
