Full Version: Escort Spi '99 Unidentified Vacuum Line

I have this vacuum line I suspect to be leaking (due to the electrical tape holding it together......that's another story. Only problem is I'm not sure which part to ask the store for as I don't know what it's called officially. The part I'm referring to is the elbow piece and the electrical taped line connecting to it. Anybody have any idea what part I should ask the store for to replace this with? Use the oil dipstick and the a/c line as reference of position under the hood. It's up near the firewall.

Yeah I know. It was some plastic 90 degree elbow. It was busted totally in half and somebody decided to tape it together, I just ripped it out and replaced it with a hose, had to rearrange the lines going to the master cylinder and intake but I made it fit with that instead of the elbow.

Still got a frickin vacuum leak though........idling at 1000-1100, which is better than the 1400 before I replaced that broken elbow, but it's obviously leaking from elsewhere too.

No other obviously bad vacuum parts from visual inspection. Some noise coming from pcv every once in a while so I will replace the PCV valve next, then egr, intake manifold, and throttle body gasket I suppose. Fortunately nothing here is very expensive but just a pain to figure out where the leak is coming from.

Well there should be a diagram underneath your hood that shows the correct vacuum routing.

Heres a how-to I made up from my auto repair book.

PCV Valve was busted, PCV hose itself was also cracked. Fixed that and now it idles 600-900 rpm and the SES light hasn't come on again.

Hmm speaking of PCV valves......

I am thinking of replacing mine... When I had my valve cover powdercoated last summer I put a new one in and I didn't use the sealant recommended since I couldn't find it. I doubt I needed it since it clicked right in there and wasn't leaking... to my knowledge. lol I

"(9) If the PCV valve was removed from cylinder
head cover, apply Mopart Thread Sealant with Teflon
to threads and install valve to cylinder head cover.
Tighten PCV valve to 8 N?m (70 in. lbs.)."
