I'm getting a econotig welder sat the 6th or sooner .

I'm getting the welder which is two years old , but never taken off the pallet. A full, tank of argon. A helmet, and the cart made for the welder.

The welder can do 3/16th's aluminum (max) , so after talking to miller. They said dont max the welder unless you have too. So I'll make the base of my pan 3/16ths, and the rest I'll get 1/8th aluminum for.

If all goes well, I could be rolling by the end of sept. But I've been working ALOT of OT lately so not sure if that is possible. Gotta work enough over to get some bills/cc's, and this welder worked off.

So far the month of august I've only had 3 days off , and this monday coming up is double and a half.

Anyways figured I'd let everyone know.

Its great to get the project started again, and its even better now that there is a aluminum welder in the club.

well I got the welder. I'll post pictures here soon. Its completely bad ass. Came with everything , plus the stick attachment, automatic helmet, large tall tank, and a cart. We ended up cutting the cart in half when we were there..because it wouldn't fit in the car. Overall it went completely smooth. We also tested it while we're down there. Burnt through 1/8 at 50% power , looks fairly new. My dad has already made me an offer on it lol.

Oh and soon as I left, melissa's fuel pump went out, litteraly that morning it went. Then I had a problem on the way down there, I have a visa gift card. Used it at the gas station for the first time, it said see attendant. Ok so I go in, she lets me fill then goes to swipe the card. Declined! im like what! so i pay with my debit card... get 10 miles away decide to call the visa gift card ppl, they said the bank took the 75 out. Had to go back, took 45mins to figure out. They were trying to tell me I went to a different gas station. I was lit. I was so close to calling the cops for theft. I'm calling phillips 66 tomorrow, they owe me a 2.00 bucks for a water they made me swipe (to make sure it works) and 45 mins of my time, and the gas to go 25 miles.

It was completely unacceptable.

well got the idea down, and did get some good welds. Out of 10 pictures only two came out good.

On the aluminum the right "melted puddle" was my first weld of the night, the one of the left the strip is my 2nd weld of the night...(there are 3 welds on it, very left is pauls mig trying to do aluminum, middle is my nice one, right is my 1st one) it came out really good with near perfect penetration.

The steel, I welded two pieces together that came out great, then I welded a strip and it turned out good two.

I tried welding aluminum to magnesium (cam cover) and I've noticed its very hard to heat two different quality/thickness of metals. I ended up jacking up so after that I just went at it. I could have saved it but it was trash anyways. Also welding aluminum isn't bad, but doing different angles and rotating is a bitch. I need a better set up and helmet for this. The helmet that came with the welder, the tensioner on the hat doesn't work so it falls off if I lean over to much, and if there is ANY light behind me it blinds the fuck out of me.

Anyways, this is great news that I'm getting it down, I'll still have paul help me a extreme amount thumbsup.gif

Mind you, I have less then 45mins of total welding time lol
