finished the intake last night. now planning the exhaust. plans for a pypes performance M80 muffler with 2 1/4 piping with a side exit just before the driver rear tire. also looking around for sheet metal to fabricate a firewall to seal off the trunk space.

Damn dude, that is a clean 1st gen!
Love the plans for it.
The DCR twin turbo kit is a waste of money. Just get a big single snail. Less headaches.

and i attempted the exhaust which it just sounds like shit. it needs a resonator of something. it sounds like a tuba up an elephants ass. sounds awesome when i start it but when i accelerate it gets raspy rattly and vibrates the hell out of everything. what i want is header hollow cat( to get passed inspections) muffler and side exit. what i have is header hollow cat stock pipes back, and a dynamax high flow straight through muffler. and i had to crush the pipe to get it to fit and it still doesnt fit right. this is some ghetto ass shit exhaust and its pissin me off.

well the exhaust will be fixed soon. i over nighted from summit a hushpower resonator and pypes m80 series muffler, same thing i have on the focus. so that gets here tomorrow as well as the neon goodies semi solid bobble strut, booger bushings, and 2.4L motor mount adaptor from modern performance.

see this is what happens when you have money. you actually make progress on things you have been wanting to do for years.

Because you can spend less money and get the same or even more power from a single turbo.

They go for $200 all day long. I sold mine for $180 shipped.
I thought he got the srt motor all ready? Why spend money on a stock turbo when you can put that money towards the dcr twin turbo kit?

be nice...i see that sarcasm
not sure what his plans are. First thought he was going srt motor, then this engine, then srt engine built ...im confused now.
street_tuner87
Apr 6 2010, 08:21 PM
a blind man could see that.
any way i do have the srt motor. now i have the srt turbo. i never changed motors or plans always intended on a built srt motor with a turbo but true i was undecided on what kind of turbo setup, but i took some advise and went with the single turbo route so i dont see why there is any sarcasm needed. if this is what i am going to get i will either talk shit about your project or just leave kctuners even though i have been a member much longer. i have never bashed anyone elses plans, ideas or dreams.

the motor thats in the car right now is just the stock motor. just temp, if thats part of the confusion.

Wasn't sarcasm it was a question.
So you are going to have a built SRT motor with a stock SRT turbo?

to minimize down time, yes. until i can get a bigger turbo this oppertunity came sooner. the less down time i have with the car the happier i am, and since i have two cars at my disposal i can go and get parts or what ever i need to get it back up and running. after all my other failed projects i dont want down time as much as i can help it. anything i can do to keep it running i will. the fact that i dont have a garage is the reason i havent just taken the stock motor out yet. not to mention i still have to get the srt motor rebuilt.

When do you plan on doing the swap?

the motor is in the back of the focus waiting to be rebuilt. and the turbo is in my room waiting for the motor to be rebuilt and put in. still have to find all the charge piping that will fit, intercooler, bov, computer, and some other stuff.

man i need to update this. need to clean the junk in the garage around the car first. as of now the neon is garaged on stands. everything is taken out of the interior. making a template for the alluminum dash. stripped down the steering column to the bare internal parts, just need to fab a bracket to finish that and a new steering wheel. have done as much weight redux on the interior as i can without sawing stuff out.
doors are off to start weight redux on them, plan on sawing the skin off the pass side and welding it on and replaces the window with a lexan insert. driver side will be slimmed down to skin and partial reinforcement. going with a 12 point cage. on the engine side of the car everything but the lower end of the stock motor, tranny, brakes, and steering has been taken out.
the srt motor is standing by to be built. pretty much have everything to throw it all in to get running but the new harness, intercooler and piping. i really need those main things to get it running again.
once it gets warm again i will go through and clean the garage to take pics and a vid.
other than that the mustang needs the starter replaced to drive it again. and the tranny on the focus is slipping and wont last to the end of the week. i need to sell the focus asap.
after the starter is replaced on the mustang i want to swap to a t-5 5spd.

oh and found out what was wrong with the starter. finally got warm enough to work on it and lifted it and took a look, the bolts had come loose. there was at least an inch of thread showing on the bottom bolt. couldnt get to the top bolt cause the stock headers. but i could grab the starter and shake it more than an inch in either direction. so i just tightened downt he bolt and tried starting it and it worked. once it gets much warmer im going to just go ahead and change the starter so i dont have to worry about it.

ok so im going a new direction with the neon. and it will be completely unique.
