Ok, i am dying to know. where did Vitviper get his cams at??? he wont tell me and i really havent been succssful looking online :(

and if i get new cams, will new cam gears be needed?

Engine pulleys- where to get them the cheapest and which brand is the best?

#42 Injectors- where can i get these?

and i havent really seen anything anywhere on upgraded pistons, crankshafts, valve springs, rockers, lifters or rods but i am sure they are out there.

I count all these as the essentials to a bullet proof engine. feel free to add anything i missed, i am looking for advice!

Talk to tom over at focus-power.com he can probably point ya in a direction towards buildin up the bottom end.
UR, esslinger, or ford racing for underdrive pullies whoever you trust the most.
Won't need new cam gears for the cams but dependin on the grind you might need new shims.
And I don't know about the injectors.

and you still like him?

Cams, focus intake cam will work , and for exhaust cam, check out zxtuners.com, tell rob Jarred (inis) sent you

As far as cam gears, stock gears will work the with cams from zxtuners.com/rob, the cams he sells, are made for the zx2 specificly.

UDP's , I'd stay away from UR, I'd go esslinger/ford racing (same thing) , or afx. Myself and Insta have af/x . They go for around 100.00 , I think its alittle more for the esslinger/FR one, but not positive.

42lb injectors, I have ford racing ones. I'll get you part numbers here soon and edit this post.

All the engine stuff crower sales, also check with rob he sales some of it also.

Want a bullet proof engine fo sho, get a CGI block, check with tom over at focus-power.com , he can build you a short block for about the same as it would cost you to do it yourself. I've heard positive and neg on his work, so its kinda up in the air.

A CGI block and Crower stuff is only if you're wanting to go in excess of about 500hp.

Yeah. 32lbs boost?
inis
they make several diff types of rods/pistons set up anywhere from 300-500+ depends what your wallet can pull. To get anything over 300 hp, you'll need a serious turbo and serious tuning. If you want to hit 500hp goal, most likely you'll need some Nitrous in with that turbo.

or something like this

although i would love 500 ponies, i seriously doubt it. i would like a stout engine, maybe 200 hp or so N/A and add a smaller turbo, the T25 or gt28 for an extra 50-100 hp. i dont really plan to go over 300.

and as far as this guy building the engine. he will make a custom block (CGI?) and install all the internals? i really cant imagine that being cheaper than buying all the internals and doing it with some local help. BUT if you guys say so then ok. I will email Rob about the cams and ask about everything else i am looking for and see what he can do. and i am beginning to get the hint that all focus internals are better than ours but fit our engine?
Sully
inis you just had to one up on me and explain everything in good detail eh?
arden
ok in all honesty, our blocks are quite strong right? thats one thing i have not seen anyone complain about cracking or breaking on the forums. i am thinking of the parts list and i just really cant see spending 1500 just for a block to be worth it... i cant imagine all the internals costing me $2000 either
Sully
More or less your decision the block should be ok since your not boosting huge.
arden
ya, and thats assuming if i even go through with the boost project. if a highly modded engine makes me happy, then i may not boost at all... but it would be fun and definitely quick!!! PDT_07

ok, next question, back to the cams.

obviously replacing the intake and exhaust cams with the ones from zxtuner will boost power tremendously i think but once again what about the cam gears? will the esslinger adjustable cam gears do anything for HP or have any advantages?

and next question, WHY THE HELL ARE 42lb FUEL INJECTORS SO EXPENSIVE!!!!! wow, $245 for injectors?! that sounds high

and does the fuel rail or fuel lines need to be upgraded? i know the goal is for better unrestricted flow, just thought i would ask. i have seen a couple aftermarket fuel rails for the Z...

cam gears are beneficial for several reasons:
easier to tune your powerband and the ability to move your powerband (say stock you make most of your power down low i.e. 2500 rpm's , with gears you can move it to say 4500rpms very easily compared to alternative methods)

Injectors, thats for a set of 8, I got mine for about that or alittle less, but I split the cost with someone and I got 4 and he got 4.

Fuel line and fuel rail. These probally wont need a upgrade for what your doing, but your fuel pump might, depending what your ultimate hp goals are.

Arden, try this.

Get some stock swirlies (at least for the front wheels). I'm sure you can pick a set up for hella cheap from someone on here. Get a 4-2-1 header. There's one for sale for an awesome price in the For-Sale section right now. Run it open pipe. Obtain an EMA0 PCM, and put POTS and a shiftkit on it.

That is a one-day upgrade that will drop your 2003 up to 2.5+ seconds in the quarter-mile. Then you can decide if you just want another two seconds, or if you actually want a 300hp turbo monster.
arden
well i think i will get everything you mentioned except the wheels. i am sorry but i just cant replace my 17's. as inefficient as they are, my parents would literally KILL me. and say i got the 4-2-1 but switched to mtx sometime in the future... will that combo work? i know you told me to get a 4-1 if i went mtx... once again it deals with where the power is on the band, either low or mid-high

ps- thanks inis for the cam gear explanation
