Anyone who drag races on the street or at the track will face this. For most of you, traction is a serious issue. Let's help out some of the younger guys here and post up what to do. Any FWD or RWD guys that could post what tire and spring/strut combo's work best to keep from burning them off.

For me, AWD is the best for the street. I never worry about spinning. However, at the track AWD is a slight disadvantage because everyone else can launch almost as good as me. Anyway, I engage my clutch. Take the RPM's to 4500 and hold. Light goes green and release the clutch quickly (but don't drop it) and add throttle. If done right, you won't bog. I also wouldn't advise doing this too often on your stock clutch.

I have some serious hop issues, and the flywheel and header give me some poor low-end performance (1-3k). I have to launch at exactly 3128.4 RPM. Any faster and I'm hopping like a pogo stick. Any slower and I might as well get out and push it through first gear, because of the bog. I have to ride the clutch for awhile too ... keep the revs up without spinning the tires too hard.

Yes, 3128.4 RPM. I looked at my dial tach in my car. That's where it sits on good launches.

What tires, wheel size, strut, and springs are you running?

ya even when i launch your car i get wheel hop, i believe its your tires more then anything.

bryans does wheel hop like no other... lol

my car is easy to launch, and i get a perfect launch everytime! hold the brake, then floor it! lol ATX FTW!

It'll launch better if you just remove slack in the drivetrain, IE braketorque to 1200 or so RPM. Don't peg it immediately either, ramp the throttle up.

The only real advice for fwd cars is to learn your car such as bryan has. Figure out where it spins, where it hops, where it bogs...and find your happy medium

I personally can go just about whenever without bogging. And honestly get very very very little wheel hop anymore. If its doing anything its hooking up or spinning. As for me I dont hold and launch...cuz I hardly race and when I do I just hammer down when the clutch lets out....still no bog (sux for the stockies)

BTW bryan the kami was just proven to have about the same gains hotshot does from the get go to about 3000rpms where the kami owns hotshot...just for future refference we have the best header available wink.gif

<--cough--- launch master --- cough

my launch:

3500, feed the clutch

wheels/tires: launches the same on 18' or 13's ..no wheel hop

clutch : spec 2+ (locks instantly very hard to feather)
Energy suspension front mount
solid rear mount

suspension:
stock s/r es bushings
21mm rear w/ es bushings
tokico s/r struts
ground controls 350/400lb springs i believe

not to break the thread or anything. 4-1 headers tend to do better than 4-2-1 headers, so i can see why the kami works better, but hotshot should be coming out with thier 4-1 headers in the next couple weeks, so we'll have to see how they work when they come out.

btw i just launch around 3k, i don't ever get wheel hop unless i'm at the track.

My launches at the track probably shouldn't count. set the two stage rev limiter at 5k. floor it and let off the limiter then hang on and start shifting.

how do you know if you bog?

the motor will "bog" down, meaning that when your flooring it and letting the clutch out you let to much clutch out killing the motors potential power....

so thats only w/manual then?

Bogging is also when you're telling the motor to do a whole lot more than it currently can. Flooring it in an auto from a standstill could bog it too, especially with a braketorque. Ease the throttle into the next power position, roll it through the revs, don't just hammer it to the floor.

It's easy on paper, but I cannot master that technique so far. As such, inis can drive my car a lot harder than I can.
