Ok, for more performance you replace the UDP with a smaller one, get a shorter belt and all of a sudded you have more HP right? well if you get lets say a esslinger UDP, can you get a over drive pulley too?
basically will a upgraded ODP, like the Zxtuner one, give more HP or just more electrical to power things on the interior? can both pulley's be aftermarket and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

well, this could be easy or hard to explain. Think of UD/OD pulleys like this. Basicly your either making a pulley larger or smaller vs its revs.
You get a UDP depending on its size, it will spin less on the belt making everything else have less revolutions, thus giving the engine more power because its not having to spin as much. ODP does the complete opposite.
pros and cons:
quicker revs
more hp/tq
cons:
everything is underpowered so you could possibly have electrical problems (powering everything at once)
No harmonic balancer (seems not to be a problem with the zetec though)
I have the afx, i'm having electrical issues, but I believe its cause my alt is friend and my battery is old (orginal battery the car came with)
I'll find out for sure when I work on it thur.

The stock crank pulley was designed to ensure that a ZX2 works under the worst conditions. People are stupid and whiny. The power steering has to be feather-light when the car isn't moving, because otherwise people complain to Ford that their sporty economy car is too hard to mis-drive. Ford also has to account for people who are dumb enough to leave their car idling for 6 hours and expecting the car to run flawlessly after that with no low-voltage problems.
The pulleys weren't arbitrarily chosen, they were calculated for precise needs. Contrary to what we like to think, Ford actually spent some time designing this car. ;)
However, the precise needs were a lot more extreme than we're using. Get an AF/X. :)

I have the esslinger UDP and the ZXTuner ODP. Both were smaller than the stock pulley it was replacing. I love the combo. Works great. Dont think most people need the ODP though.

thanks everyone. i have read of being short on electrical power by going to a smaller UDP, and supposedly the ODP replacement by zxtuner should give more electrical power. if CJW has had success with his combo then i think i will do the same.
@inis & insta- i thought you guys said that your af/x pulley's sucked

I would go af/x UDP and zxtuner ODP if I were to do it over
But I got a hell of a deal on the essy UDP

really? whats wrong with the essy? and i could swear either inis or insta complained about their af/x

The af/x is more underdriven. Nothing is wrong with the essy. Its just the af/x will make more power. Thats all.
I got my essy while it was on sale on zxtuner for 60 bucks. got the ODP and belt at the same time. like 110 bucks or there about shipped
