Full Version: K So I Tuned With And Without Vct

Ok so I figured hey removing VCT is easier than reinstalling later....SOOOO I tuned vct via vits parameters and dyno tuning to fullest potential.

As many of you know my car was having timing belt issues...as in I went through 4 of them in roughly a month and a half down.gif . Anyway it was still running very strong with the issues. In fact the issues I was having would in no way effect the power output. Well It felt strong the whole way through the power band. It pulled to redline and past. It was great.

Well because of everything going on and it not being crankwalk I decided Im done Im pissed Im replacing everything. Well I bought everything. Crank gear, lower idler, upper idler, tensioner, vct delete, adj mac cam gear, and a new unorthodox udp(replacing essy)

Well it took roughly 4 hours of working and everything was torn down, cleaned thoroughly, timing set, and all installed. Everything runs great and I dont expect to have anymore problems.

Because I called the day before to my tuner. When I got home from installing everything guess what was waiting in my inbox...thats right a new tune for my SCT. Which had the entire VCT tables removed.

Now understand previously it was tuned on the dyno for the max I could get out of it. Right now it is on a generic tune with both gears at 0*. It runs hard, strong, idles better, and doesnt have random surges in power/loses of power. I didnt notice the lose in power if any. And it runs better. Also my tuner is hooking me up with some more dyno tuning happy.gif

Now someones areguement may be well your vct was going out...who gives a shit...its still a hassle. Hmm guess what. My adj cam gear will never just shit on me...

That is all. Enjoy

sweet , once i steal that tune from ya.. i'll data log mine..and post results. Of coarse my outcome is going to be totally different then yours because of ours mods. Anyways..hope my out come is as good as yours.

P.S. send my tune with no rev limiter

P.S.S. thanks woot.gif

You can change the tune yourself. You have to change it in the xtreme tune program. You cant remove the rev limiter but you can raise it to what you want.

My mods are simply everything but the motor itself...yours are external drive and modded intake side...you without exhaust should be fairly close to mine because of all your drivetrain loss not being as prevalent as mine being that you removed most of it...

Next install will probably be my fiddy and clutch. Then lock down my suspension and Ill be done til my tranny project hits the fan

so how did that tune end up?? I have the full bolt-ons now, along with spec 2 clutch and fiddy, also deleting vct....is there anyway that I could get that tune and datalog it to see how it re-acts on my car??

I have a generic tune in right now with all the mods listed. I have everything I was planning on doing...but every time I go to the dyno something breaks.

Thing holding me from the dyno right now is the alternator brushes float at about 4800rpms. No charge=weak electrical=weak spark=ghey powerband

I need to order a new alt this week and install it. After that I will be heading back. You can use my tune if you'd like then. I'll send you a copy when I get it.

alright, sounds good. thanks...interested to see how well it works.

carl, I have 2 or 3 spare alts laying around, want one? I'll have to double check and that will take me a bit..cause there not with me..but if I have a extra one your welcome to it.

Ahh memories. I remember tuning my car back when vit was first trying that VCT tuning, I tried a couple of different settings, but without a dyno I couldn't tell a difference between them.

I haven't driven my ZX2 since March of '08 when something in the engine blew out as I was going up a hill... I miss it - it's been parked in the parking lot ever since :(

Now I'm driving a girly volkswagen convertible, yuck
