ok, so i am shopping for a credit card. before anyone jumps out and says dont because i will be forever in debt and i will have horrible credit let me say something. i am a very responsible kid for my age, i am a cheap skate and i dont spend much, and i wouldnt be spending any more than i can pay off at the end of the month. i am just looking to have one to buy stuff when i NEED it rather than waiting on pay checks so i dont overdraw from my checking. i just wanted to know if anyone has any advice or cards they really like. i have applied for a bank of america platinum card, thats it. i dont have to accept it so i am open to offers and advice and any explanations of terms and rates that usually mix people up. :P

I got my first credit card a few months back at age 20. It wouldve been better to get one at 18 truthfully. Because you have no credit and companies go hmmm he waited this long for what reason.
I got it because I want to build credit so I can buy a house and move out. Tell you the truth just get it and use it for what you said. Also if you dont use it in a month just buy a tank of gas with it. Help your credit out a lil. anything is good fro credit.
It also helps to not pay the whole thing off...yes it builds your interest but it shows them you can handle responsibility and understand the paying on time deal..
I have a capitol one

Whoever told you that is wrong. All that it does is make you pay more for interest.
Credit is built by spending money on credit, and then demonstrating the ability to pay it off. Leaving it in there simply demonstrates you're not able to pay off as much as you spent, just yet. Truthfully.

Credit cards also establish little to no credit at all. I mean they do a little but very little. Car loans and rentin apartments things of that nature establish your credit very quickly. Trust me theres a reason why were rentin a duplex and waitin till next year to buy a house. My credits just now gettin up there and I'm rentin this place and have already paid off 2 cars.

thanks everyone, i will check out capital one, i have heard good things about them. yes i am using it to build credit, but i want it more for the convience of use and having money when i need/want it and not have to wait. its painfully slow to buy parts and such one by one... but ya, i plan to pay it on time and most likely pay it off every month

Ive been paying mine off every month as well and only buy things I would normally put on my debit card.
I just had heard they like the people who pay and let some interest gather up and such. The interest isnt worth it to me so I dont do it anyway. lol

lol, coffee sounds good! jk, i dont like to read. i did mucho research online and i am getting people i knows opinions on top of the facts. i am getting a 0% APR for 6 months, so no interest for 6 months! thats all i will really need the card for because i plan to do all my mods in the next 6 months!
CJW- if it says 0% then even if there is a balance at the end of the month, they still charge no interest? i was kinda confused about this. and do you have a contract at all? is there any card termination fee?

If you dont use the card you owe nothing. And if it is 0% interest for 6 months then there is no extra added fees for at least 6 months. If you pay it all off at the end of the month you also recieve no interest.
And being it your first credit card expect high interest when it does kick in...trust me its painful.lol But also NEVER EVER go over your limit. I went over 1 dollar and I got charged 29... oh well whats 29 bucks anyway  I make that in an hour OT

my advise to you is not to get one.majority of ppl your age say the same thing=oh i will pay it off on time and i wont go over my limit. it is foolish for you to do this. there are several ways to establish credit and believe me credit cards is not the wisest of them. im a finance manager for a major car deslership and i specialize in second-chance financing.
first off your getting this card for all the wrong reasons-specially if you will use this thing to buy car parts. you and i know that customizing something is a never ending thing-because there is always something that will come up. besides if you cant afford to buy a particular part right now then how could you pay for that lump sum later? there is also the matter of the other bills-the stuff that just comes up, all of a sudden the money you set aside to pay off the cc bill you had to use to pay or spend on something else. then your forced to pay the minimum since you have 6 mos. of 0% int. wow what a deal-on average a cc debt of $1000.00 takes an individual about 10 yrs to pay off(at the minimum pymt) this is not like a simple interest car loan that has a set interest charge for a set amount of time. why do you think mtg companies are making such a killing in the past 5 years-ppl are refinancing their only real savings(home-equity)inorder to pay for there cc debt. it all starts w/ 1 cc

wow with that you could scare anyone away from getting one...
ok so maybe i was going about it wrong. ill get the car parts with what i have, and use the cc to get things that unexpectantly come up. like right now, i have like 2 bucks in my checking account... it would be nice to not have to live like a homeless guy for a week until i get paid lol

I had a credit card once, this fucking bank kept sending me back my payments (not shitting you) , then billing me all these late charges, so I call them like wtf, they said resend it, so I did...this time they take the money but didn't cash it in for like a month, well by the time this had come around the money was no longer in there, well they ran it 6 times!!! wtf so bank nsf fee 6 times!!! then they tried charging me 35 for bad check 6 times!!! they refused to take off all the late charges, 6 bounce fees, and intrest...so I said fuck off and refused to pay it. A 220 cc bill turned into 690 some dollars, they still chase me to this day...I still get collection things in the mail, the price keeps getting lower but til its to a resonable amount I refuse to pay it.
