If i was going top make a custom fiberglass box what kind of wood would i use to hold and support the fleece material. what i have seen done before is that you would build a thin frame and then glue or staple the fleece material down then coat it with fiberglass resin then sand it down smooth. but i don't know what wood to use for the frame.

ask CJW. He's made a few of them already and he's a mad scientist when it comes to fiberglass.

I use 5/8" thick mdf board. A thin fleece which will soak up an assload of resin. And 1/4 dowels for the ring supports. Hotglue works well also staples...but hotglue is forgiving

do you think you could post some pics of a past project maybe like the frame so as to get a general idea.

what about polycrete. is that any good to use as a coating.

I do not have any past projects that you can see the frame and everything done is at home...you know where I am correct? 8)
As a coating I use nothing but resin and fiberglass mat. For final stages I would use a flexible filler or putty
