My brother owns a 98 ranger , and my mom owns a 98 explorer ...both have the 4.0 , auto, the truck is 2wd, the explorer is 4x4

My brother truck is regularly maintanced, but my moms truck we have not had long enough too. Both of them are taking FOREVER to start, actaully my brothers took two long starts this morning to get going.

Both are edis ignition, brothers has performance wires , and new plugs...everything else has been good, filter, oil etc etc.

Moms = unknown.

My brother does drive incredibly hard, but the truck seems to take it well.

Anyone know whats up? I suggest timing, but not on both trucks? once they get going they run just fine. But the other night with I was driving my moms I did notice a hesitation here and there around 1200 rpm's. Wasn't everytime but did do it more then once, on a outting.

How cold is it? If it's really cold or has a high humidity, maybe the computer isn't reading the mixture right. Or maybe, I'm really tired and not thinking straight.

turned out his car died one day, so he couldn't figure it out..thought it was the starter, I came and looked at it, said its a dead battery, so we bought some 5.99 jumpers, jumped it...started right up. So we went and bought a battery, and the truck runs perfect.
