My employer has opened the doors for a Friday LAN party, to make use of our hellishly well-built network, cubicles, etc.
The rules:
* Since you will use somebody else's cubicle, you leave it EXACTLY as you found it. Repercussions from failure to follow this WILL spill over into the forums or more.
* You may NOT use the computer there, for ANY reason. You WILL supply your own computer.
* You may NOT abuse our internet or systems. Absolutely NO Limewire, porn, etc.
* You MAY use the keyboard and mouse that are there. There is no guarantee if you'll get a ball mouse or laser mouse.
* You MAY use the monitor at the desk. It will be at least a 15" screen, most likely a 17" screen, capable of at least 1280x1024@60Hz.
* Power cables and network connections will be provided.
A few games might be provided. Don't count on it.
We can probably get food. There are a lot of cheap restaurants nearby.
You're welcome to come down and just watch us, if you don't want to bring your own machine. We have a great hackey sack area outside for playing, if we want to.
Please rollcall if you want to come Friday, and what time would be best. Any other questions please do not hesitate to call me, or ask in the forums.
remember: please tell me what timeframe works best for you.

If I showed, would someone be able to help me do some clean up on my computer? Or maybe I have no idea what a LAN party is

You've got the right idea. Drag your machine on up!
The point of a LAN party is really to get a bunch of geeks on the same network for some high-intensity gaming against each other, without lag from the internet. We just have a very powerful, purpose-built network at my office which will do a bangup job.

inis or I can build a damn decent machine (compared to your current specs), for under $400. Throw a Linux desktop environment on it and save yourself $100 on Windows (plus never having to worry about spyware or viruses). :)

most video games aren't linux compatible. You know this cause you partitioned your Hard Drive. Of coarse there is linux software that lets you *almost* convert any windows program to linux, but to me its a big hassle to do that.
Paul- Look to spend around 800 with a moniter, and you'll get rebates out of that. You can do it cheaper if you wish, but some stuff I'd suggest not taking corners on (branding and etc) . Do it right the first time, and don't have to worry about it for years to come. (just like car hehe)
If you already have a moniter (I suggest flat panel as there easier on your eyes) then you could take off 250 off that estimated 800 price.
