yup, a broken motor mount will make the motor rock forwards and backwards.

Yesum. It really depends on what's broken. It could be a sheered bolt or the bolt that holds the mount together could have fallen out due to vibrations (seen it happen many times). It might not necessarily be broken. Always start with the cheapest solution and work your way out.
