Rules:
No cheating (i.e. googling the EXACT question)

Question must be possible to answer (I.E. How many is mm is the earth from the sun? two things here, one I'm sure the answer is somewhere, but lets be realistic, two the earth to sun distance is a variance

and last but not least, whomever answered the previous question, gets to ask the next question. All ppl who butt in and don't follow these rules will have there post deleted.

So as topic creator, I get first question:

Why are wine bottles colored?
CJW
The color is not so much the issue in wine as it is the temperature and way it is held during storage. A common myth is that the color was for the aging process which was proven untrue because it can be completely opaque and still age the same.

The reason they are clear though is so the wine expert can look through it to see the wine and be able to tell what type it is and the quality of it inside(consistency, color, etc)

Not sure if I answered it or not...

So the wine doesn't spoil by the light. It's also one of the reasons that wine is stored in dark cellars.

Dan is right. Bottles are tinted a dark red, green, or brown color to let less color in, thus changing the taste value of the wine, and aging it differently.

Next question Dan...!!!

Let me take a stab at this one. I obviously can't get *too* accurate, but I can get you a ballpark.

Light takes 8 minutes to reach the earth, once it leaves the sun. 8 * 6 = 48 * 10 = 480 seconds. Light travels 3 million meters per second. 48 * 2 = 96 + 48 = 144 million meters, or 144,000,000,000 millimeters.

These are round numbers. Once I finished typing it, I looked it up. It's 149 billion millimeters, I wasn't too far off. :)

My question if applicable: why is it dangerous to touch a 220v wall socket, but safe to touch a 10 million volt Van-de-Graff generator?
