yep your driving to hard on it, gotta know when to let off and when its ok to stomp it. I've went through one tranny, but it was cause I had the car pegged doing well over 100mph and the clutch gave.
Dont get me wrong, I drive my car hard as anyone else, but you got to know where the limits are.
Bryan has had his share of tranny's

matts tranny was doomed before he got it. 120K+ miles on any zx2 tranny is remarkable, especially when driven hard. the first "break" was his linkage came loose and that had to be tightened up. I think that the tranny might have suffered further damage from driving hard with the linkage out of place and so now its about shot. he pulled a spare tranny from the yard the other day and i think they plan on installing it tonight... i have my fingers crossed, but the "new" tranny has 113K+ on it and might not be much better. that and i dont think they are installing a new clutch or throwout bearing

I don't know what is up with all you guys and breaking tranny's....
I've had my car to 7k in 5th gear, that's something like 155 right? I drive horribly fast and drop the clutch onto high rpms.
I shift slower than most people but I wouldn't think that has a whole lot to do with it.
The car just rolled over the 130k mark to.

Shifting slowly has everything to do with it. Our weak points are the forks, exacerbated by sluggish synchros.

I only shift slow into second gear. The rest of the gear I into fast when I'm having fun. During regular driving (I do obey the traffic laws most of the time) I shift slow as hell into all gears.

afbrian had a 98 ZX2, he romped the hell out of that thing. I think the 98's had better synchros or something.

i have no clue, i have actually heard the opposite. i have heard the 98's have weaker forks but stronger synchros... no big deal either way. i guess i can be somewhat happy i have a 98 tranny in my garage ;)

Well, find out for sure. I know his scratched gears all the time (synchros?), but he smacked the shit out of the shifter and it never once broke. Then, discect your 98, pull out the strong part, disect the 99.5+, get the strong part, discect an Escape transaxle for the gearing, and mount all those goodies into a 99.5+ bellhousing.

One of the reasons that Ford changed the tranny is becuase syncros. And the gear difference between 1st and 2nd.

thats why ford discontinued the taurus, cuase of the syncros or something like that, thats what i was told anyway.
