ok so back to my question.
how badly would it screw up a car to remove the MAF sensor? am i right that it would screw up the air/fuel ratio?

If you unplug it entirely, the car will run reasonably well, but rich. The PCM compensates.
If you smash the MAF and leave it plugged in ... stuff breaks.

so if you took it out it would compensate but still run rich? how bad would that hurt the life of the engine?

well every car is different, you could unplug it and the car not even run.
But say it does, and it runs rich...well your gonna notice gas mileage and over time carbon build up on the inside of the engine..which will eventaully result in other parts breaking i.e. sensors.. plugs, misc stuff...

so is it possible to convert from a dam style to a plug style sensor? i guess you would have to ask the company huh?

On the zx2 it runs really bad with it unplugged. It feels as though all power has gone away and it idles really horrible like it cant make up its mind.
Itll let you know immediately if it aint plugged in Ill put it that way.

so whats the delay in fixing your maf? they are not expensive, order one from mazda and they are easy to install. there should be no reason for a "hill billy maf" or resorting to running your car without one... come on now

thats fine. and as for the delay i am fixed for money. i just made a goof and i have to live with it for a little. but i have an idle now so it doesnt matter. every thing is back to the way it was just a little better actually.
