Update:
We close Fri. (27th)

Out loan is screwy so I wont expain it, but the appraisal we got went for 132k (we are paying 91k minus 4800 back for clean up)
Insurance appraised it at 182k , meaning that if they had to replicate it in case of a bad fire, storm or whatever thats what it would take to replace it.

Anyways I start my overhauling Fri night
Anyone wishes to join Fri, Sat or Sunday please let me know I'll be there all weekend with the exception of sat we're going to go meet up with a tile guy to get a custom shower measured up.

I will need help on the following (please yell if you know how to do any and can help)
-Manaul Labor (clean up, and demolision)
-Hardwood floor resurfaced (drum sander, new stain, etc)
-Trim person (1/4 round and matching of the orginal wood work, meter saw)
-Dry wall (includes taking down the old plaster crap)
-Someone to make steps for the master bedroom (trace out old ones, make new ones, replace etc)
-Tile, kitchen floor, and back splash
-Electrical outlets (move boxes, replace plugs)
-Paint (newrooms, maybe front room etc)
-Drop down laminate flooring (just help on)
-Help on remodeling both bathrooms, this will include replacing any plywood flooring, laminate flooring, drywall, greenboard, new sink, cabinets, toilet, connectioning up drains and water lines, moving shower head higher...etc
-Someone to clean garage up, go through stuff left there decide whats good and whats not (move heavy stuff)

I can't afford to pay anyone really, but I do offer:
-Gas reimbursement
-Food
-Drinks (if you want beer or whatever I'll give money but wont actaully buy)
-Crap cloths (mainly body suits and mask for removing old stuff, very dirty job)
I think thats all I can offer, anything small please ask and I'll see what I can do.

Also if anyone has a pick-up (bed or trailer) that can help near OP,KS area...let me know I'll need a few trips to home depot or lowes for some drywall

Dates I plan to be at the house working:
Oct 27th, 28th, 29th
Nov 2nd, 3rd, 5th , 10th, 12th, 15th-19th
First of Nov I'll post more dates

PM for house address and plans

Thanks to whomever can help
street_tuner87
i plan to come home the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. maybe i can help on the third for a little. i have framed walls and put up sheetrock, havent taken it down though. lol, i am always good at demolision.
inis
Ok we're work something out based on how long you wanna stay and help.
arden
Ill come help out for some of the november dates. This weekend is a huge weekend at my work, I can't get off for any reason.

I am going to try to get out there on the 4th from as early as you want to start until mid afternoon when i have to go to work. The 5th after auto x if you want to work that evening. The 12th all day, and the 19th all day. Sunday's are my best days to be able to help you. I can request to work 6-close on saturdays and help during the mornings and early afternoons if you want me to. Just depends on how early you want to start and how bad you need the help.

I am familiar with all sorts of the stuff you have listed. My parents do all kinds of "do it yourself" projects around our house from new drywall, building a deck, tile, tearing walls down, trim, painting ect ect. I am by no means an expert at any of this, but I can learn and lend a somewhat competent lending hand lol
CJW
If I was out there I'd help.

Good luck this weekend with it bro.
inis
Kyle only sat I'll have off is this sat, and the 18th of nov. Otherwise I have to work and dont have enough vacation time. I'll be getting there around 9am on most of the days I go out there, if not sooner.

Thanks Carl, I'll have my hands full. This weekend is matching locks (new and keyed to match) , demolision of some bathrooms, and kitchen counter top removal. Also have to clean up all the crap that was left there from previous owner.
inis
we close today, we also got a dump truck coming today w00t

now I gotta call all the utilities and get stuff turned back on, selling agent already turned everything off mad.gif
CJW
Hey man I got your text but I was at a halloween party til 4 in the morning(when I got it)

Glad you guys are now homeowners officially. Congrats bro, can't wait to be a house guest.
redbeardracer
Congrats!

As far as the sheet rock goes, I think if you buy enough, Home Depot or Lowes will deliver for FREE! You might want to ask the store near you about that...
street_tuner87
i dont suppose you use some help on the 4th? just the only time i really have next weekened. if not i was just making sure.
inis
Thanks everyone, I'll be busy over there so dont look forward to see me on here much except a reply here and there.

I seen the sign at home depot, I'll look into it more when the time comes.

4th I'll be working norm job.

I'll post some clean up pics this weekend, for those who are keeping progress. If anyone wants to help , i'll really need it!

Thanks bryan for helping sunday, even if you were there only a few hours ...it really helped though!

Godzilla
I might be able to come out see what happens, I will call you.
street_tuner87
dont have a car anymore, i would love to help, sorry.
inis
well we didn't get to lay the conduit. I had already trenched but I stopped where I was told the sewer line is (1 inch pvc pipe) and hand dug that area 2 weeks ago, never found it. so today I took the trencher back over that area and welps I hit it, I was 4 inches too deep. So we stopped and I have friend coming over tomorrow to back hoe it so I can fix the pipe.. its only a water line not actaul sewwage... we have whats called a hold tank, like a septic tank but the water is pumped out to a main sewer line,no actaul sludge is pumped. So once I get that fixed I can finish the 200 amp upgrade and get on with life... sucks this has been a major pain.

Other news is I got most of the first bathroom finished, I'm to the point to paint and put laminate down so I can install the vanity and etc. I gotta install one more power outlet, then some drywall then it will be real close! first bathroom is gonna rock! (mine, the other bathroom is hers to design, but I do all the work)

anyways things are a mess at the house, its a total war zone.. but it will eventaully come around.
inis
200 amp service complete and old 100 amp aerial is gone w00t w00t I accomplished one thing.

total cost of this was something like:
745.00 kcpl charge for OH to UG
300.00 to brother for helping (paid more then he asked, helped him with xmas)
300.00 in electrical parts
75.00 in "oh shit I forgot this or to fix that" parts
50.00 Miami county permit
100.00 to dad for letting us use his trencher
overall total 1570.00
projected cost: 1500.00 (not bad huh, if wouldn't have paid bro extra..we'd be on target..no biggie)

I put about a total of 5-10 man hrs into it (just me, others did help)

Passed kcpl trench inspection first time
Failed county inspection first time;
1.required 2 grounds either had to be at water entrance into basement (ya right, 20 feet away) or another ground rod 6 ft away from first. So I did 2nd ground rod and had to undo all my orginal ground rod , re-drill the hole large and feed them both up the same conduit to the house. Was a pain in the ass, tool me 3 hrs in the dark to do.
2. Failed to have corrosive resistant solution on aluminum ends (this we knew, but risked it. Some county's dont want it, so we chanced it. No biggie.

That was that, some bickering to the county, and alot to kcpl but I got her done.
inis
also we're contesting the OH to UG cost, long story short it should have been waived, it was impossible to run it as the power was before because of house and power arrangement. Dick manage wouldn't waive, waited til power was on to contest...because they'll dick you around if you fuck with them.

What's that mean? OH to UG?

[unless it means overhead to underground]

Is wireless an option???

Not with the geeks that live in that house. biggrin.gif

Actually we're running CAT5-e so we can get gigabit. We've got WAY too much data flying around to be stuck on paltry wireless ... even at 54mbit speeds. :)

But, yes, wireless would work for almost all casual PC users.
redbeardracer
Through the outside wall and then back inside at the destination? (No floors to get through, etc.)

The way it's set up, Ross is upstairs in a loft. His room abuts the neighbor's house entirely. Kitty-corner below his room is the garage, and kitty-corner under that is the basement. It's a zig-zag shape, rather than a diagonal line. Directly under Ross's room is the dining area and kitchen, so going straight through the floor is not an option. There's also a crawl-space in the attic, which I believe ends up by my room.

The two paths we have spec'ed out are either putting a wall-plate near the attic, and running the cable into my room that way, or dropping it into the garage, down the wall, into the basement, under the floor, and up into my room. Outside wall isn't an option, as Ross's room is about the most central to the house as it can be :(

The main problem, which Bryan didn't really mention is that there are certain requirements by other roommates on how it looks in the end. Exposed wires are absolutely not allowed. We've been told that if the wires are visible, they will be removed. And if any of you haven't met the roommate responsible for these comments, believe us, they are not idle threats.

But beside that, we would like it looking nice. My problem is that I would like it to be a bit more central to my room space, instead of on the attic end [which may be the opposite end of where my PC will be]. But this may not be possible without removing walls and/or invading a neighbor's house [and if you knew the neighbors, this is also out :P]. We may be able to manage some sort of drilled hole through the water-damaged portion of Bryan's ceiling into the attic, but after looking at the attic, its not really some place I want to spend much time in. I love fiberglass and spray-in insulation as much as the next guy, but I happen to like my lungs. :P

Bryan: an idea just kind of occurred to me [don't get too hopeful, it doesn't happen often]. What if we ran the cable through your ceiling into the attic, up past the attic trapdoor, make a small hole and/or faceplate up high near the ceiling beam that runs along the stairs, run the wire along that, stapled to the beam or ceiling. It would be out of the way, easier to install, unobtrusive [could be painted or something], could reach easily across the entire room. Of course, after that, it would probably be better to run it into the far wall, and make a faceplate nearer to the ground, but that is relatively easily done.

how about run wireless and when tg transferring is needed run the line through the middle of the house. I know shes a bitch , but does she really care that much if its running just temp for a few hrs here and there?

I vote duct taping her to the wall and yanking the roast beef curtains with needle nose pliers

Yes, she really is that much of a bitch, with her head that far up her ass sometimes.

Could you fish a wire through an a/c duct or return air duct between your rooms?

Probably not, it'd be "tacky". The wall plates are what we'll have to do, just a matter of us actually doing it.
dash
Yeh, the "us doing it" part will just take a while, and we are trying to figure out the easiest way to do it. I don't really have any tools to drill through concrete, so that way may not be the easiest, for example.

And as for our roommate, I use Bryan as a bit of a buffer, so he takes more crap than me. :P
street_tuner87
you know there are in-line signal boosters. would that work?
inis
w00t got me a digital lcd touch pad thermostat, 7 day programmable, lights up indiglo when touched. Cost me a small fortune but I hope to get a return in propane savings... (main reason I got it)

has 6 intervals a day that I can program for temp, or a set program for energy star (goverments suggested) heating/cooling
Also has humidity stuff built in, zone stuff, etc but our heater doesn't support it, although during summer it can use the a/c to dehumify.

perdy cool.

I'll be there thur, fri, sat, and sun if anyone wants to stop by. No holes in the floor!

Nice touchpad thermostats are wicked leet. You need to get one of those universal remotes that controls everything in your house

ok I've refinished enough hardwood in that house that I never want to do it again.

It took around 45 hrs to rough sand it, 8 of finish sanding, around 5 of hand sanding certain areas, 2 hrs of repairs (replaced two slats) , and going on a week now of staining (dam its hard to do a even coat of stain) , and sunday will be some poly I hope, also looking to laying down the hardwood in the back of the house.
We also got some new flooring (plywood), joices, wall studs and a new french door in the back half of the house , once we removed the old one we found more termite damage and some ghetto rigging of the header board over the door (ya it was like 2 2x4's nailed together!)
door opens on both sides now w00t w00t

Also everything has been primered, the kitchen cabinets should be done anyday, ceiling is getting textured next week (knock-down) .. so in about two weeks I hope to have most of the hard work done except for the one main bathroom (calling volunteers!)

anyways, thats my update.
inis
I'm now laying hardwood floor in the back of the house. About half way done, at the basement door working my way into the bedroom.

Since last discussion , we've got cabinets, hardwood in orginal house re-surfaced, stained, and poly'd. Some walls primered, and some electrical work.
insta
Place is looking rather pimp! Good work inis ;)
inis
ceilings textured, and new hardwood about 75% layed down.

Next on this old house:
walls prepped (holes, corners, etc)
then paint
then new doors in rear of house
then trim

then master bath re-modeled.

then move in

then have a hella bbq
street_tuner87
i wish i could have stayed longer.
inis
should have, instead of going to that mess. Sometimes things left alone are better off.
street_tuner87
